Our Family’s Stem Cell Story: A Charity Bag for Anthony Nolan
Behind my charity Bag for Life is a very personal story. It is about my sister, becoming her stem cell donor, and the immense gratitude our family feels towards Anthony Nolan.
Every penny of the sale price of each bag is donated to Anthony Nolan. It is my way of using my small business to give something back to a charity that means so much to us.
When our family’s world stopped
When my precious sister was diagnosed with acute leukaemia, our world stopped.
Through that frightening time, the work of Anthony Nolan gave us hope. I was able to donate my stem cells to my sister at King’s College Hospital in London, giving her a chance of recovery.
It is an experience that will always stay with me. The photograph below is from my donation, a moment that became part of our family’s story.
My little miracles
In my original account, I called the donation my “little miracles”. What looked like a bag of red goo held so much hope for someone I love.
This experience changed how I thought about my business’s ability to give back. I wanted to do something practical, something my customers could be part of too.
